Hey Creators Crew,
This week we’re sharing an interesting perspective on the cultural shift of influencers, great news for small creators on Youtube and TikTok, hot takes on Twitter’s latest moves, and a juicy rivalry that is developing behind the scenes between Meta and Twitter. For our seasoned creators and those who are new to the game – what are some tactics you’ve implemented to stay relevant to your audience…do any of those need to be adjusted asap?
DE-Influencer
Has the reign of the common influencer come to an end? Over the years, we’ve seen a rise and fall of many popular social media influencers who got called out, lost credibility, and crumbled into the online ethos. And steadily in the background, de-influencers have taken their place. These types of influencers are focused on sharing the dangers of overconsumption and mindless materialism. Their content raises awareness about ethical, sustainable consumption, and pressing societal issues. Think about your favorite DIY account, dupe finder, or poli-sci graduate who creates educational infographics for the non-experts.
These de-influencers are being seen as more authentic, trustworthy, and relatable to their growing audiences. With the way things have been, de-influencers may be the breath of fresh air that we so desperately need. Check out #deInfluencing on TikTok.
Small Creators Can Now Monetize on Youtube
Youtube’s Partner Program (YPP) has made room for creators of all sizes to monetize their platforms by expanding the eligibility criteria.
It only takes 500 subscribers, 3,000 watch hours, or 3 million Shorts views for creators to kick-start their monetization potential. Compared to the 1,000 subscribers, 4,000 watch hours, and 10 million Shorts views that were previously required, Youtube (and other platforms #TikTok) is continuing the trend toward creator inclusivity and growth.
Methods of monetization include tipping, paid chat, membership paywalls, shopping affiliate programs, as well as a continued focus on promoting short-form content with its ad revenue-sharing program.
The cherry on top? As your audience grows with you, so do the opportunities offered through YPP. There’s no need to apply twice.
Vibe Check, What’s That Twitter Bag Look Like?
Checking in – How are verified creators feeling about Twitter’s $5M payout for ads in replies?
While it is true that ad revenue will be based on ad views by other verified accounts, this chess move may push growing Creators to finally get that blue check. For others, this feels like that Spiderman meme.
Gonna be experimenting with Twitter Blue this month. This could make it worthwhile.

NEWS: Ad revenue sharing is finally almost here 👀
Only ads seen by verified users count, presumably to prevent using an army of bots to artificially boost your view count.

Creators Will Soon Be Able to Download Their Twitter Subscribers' Email Information
Twitter announced that verified users will soon be able to download their subscribers’ data (name, email address, etc.) to safely use across different tech services. This new data portability option allows users to move, copy or transfer data easily from one tech service to another. For subscribers who opt-in, the email address associated with their Twitter accounts will be available for creators to access them off-platform if they choose. While this does raise some concerns about data privacy, it is a step in the right direction for creators that want to gain ownership of their audience. In addition, Twitter is continuing to make changes to the algorithm and continue the push toward video streaming.
Meta’s Aim to Challenge Twitter With Web3
Meta is developing a decentralized social media platform to become Twitter’s rival. Amidst the drama surrounding Twitter for the past year, many users are still searching for an alternative platform to enjoy. First named Project92 (aka P92) and currently known as Threads, the ‘digital town square’ platform will be based on Instagram, with intention of being a safe, reliable social network on Web3.
