Black Podcast LIsteners Report – Edison Research

Edison Research shared their latest Black Podcast Listener Report which highlighted that representation matters to Black podcast listeners. 75% of Black monthly podcast listeners seek out content that accurately portrays the black experience and meaningful stories of our culture. And advertisers are on high alert for opportunities to support Black hosts considering the strong engagement creators have with their audiences. The report also shows that Black audiences stop listening to shows because of the lack of new episodes and marketing/promo between seasons. So creators, PLEASE UP YOUR PROMO GAME, especially on socials (a growing number of listeners find new shows through your video content).

And if you swing around the Linkedin block…you’ll have a chance to expand your brand, audience, and reach with this step-by-step guide from instructor @lloydgeorge on how to get the most out of Anchor and streamline your podcasting process.

TikTok 📹

A bill that would allow POTUS Biden to sanction or possibly ban TikTok from the U.S. (if proven that the company shared user data with associates of the Chinese government) has advanced to the House. As the future of the app is still unclear, please begin to diversify – encourage your followers to connect on other platforms and start to cross-share your content.

Meta 📸

In response to the notion that Facebook’s algorithms are biased, Meta has released the latest Widely Viewed Content Report. The 2022 Q4 data shows that the content showing up on users' profiles is more mundane than one might expect. Creators, being your funny, intriguing selves on video (*key!) is still the best way to get picked up and boosted by the Meta algorithm (even when you’re not natively posting on FB)!

YouTube 📺

New head of Youtube, Neal Mohan has emphasized a commitment to creator support with 2023 priorities including side-by-side Shorts format, which may incentivize more reaction videos and ways to make $$ with shopping-related features and ad revenue sharing.

Roku 📀

Wasn’t expecting this – In partnership with Jellysmack’s Creator Program, Roku launched two new (and free) channels, Hello Inspo and Mysteria that features content by popular YT and TikTok creators. Get in the mix by first applying to Jellysmack’s Creator Program, which uses AI tech and data to expand and boost your content on more social platforms.

Linkedin 🤝🏽

Linkedin’s loosening the reins on its resume-esque format and going for a more accessible and engaging aesthetic. Creators can put their best foot forward by choosing which content appears first in the Activity section and schedule their content (newsletters included).
