I failed miserably and the content looked like crap!
A brand paid me $2k to Vlog a few videos and integrate their brand
It’s been kinda hard for me to think about what to share with you these last few weeks because I’ve been so overwhelmed with work + life.
Normally it’s pretty easy for me to share what’s happening in my life when amazing things are happening.. but these last few weeks not so much.
I’d like to share two core ideas I’ve been exploring as a Creator in a busy season of life.
Firstly, I’d like to breakdown where most of my stress has been coming from:
My day job: As a freelance project manager my job has been consuming almost 50 hours per week of my time.
Sponsorships: I normally spend around 5 hours per week on sponsorship stuff.
Brand Deals: I got an influx of UGC deals, which has totaled to roughly 10 hours per week of work.
Admin Work: A lot of the brand deals and sponsorships I work on require weekly reporting and responses to emails. This is about 2 hours per week.
Personal Content: I’m also creating content for my brand on IG, YouTube, My Podcast & Newsletter which in total is about 7 hours per week.
Identifying where all of my stress was coming from was a great first step for me, here are two things I’m considering in this season of my life:
Simplifying Everything
One of my flaws is wanting all of my content to be perfect. In this season I’m learning how to balance giving my content my best effort and still making sure that I publish content regularly.
I’m also simplifying my workflow, instead of filming in different locations with a microphone. I’m primarily filming in my office with a cheap $30 mic that doesn’t require any setup.
Simplifying my creation workflow will allow me to lower the number of hours required to get stuff done.
Doubling down on my lane
A brand recently paid me $2k to Vlog a few videos and integrate their brand.
SPOILER ALERT - I failed miserably and the content looked like crap!
Both me and the brand were not happy with it. It took me 12 hours to film over the course of two days.
It also just wasn’t a pleasant experience filming the content.
I want to spend more time doing things that give me life, not things that feel like a burden.
What I do really well is talking head videos, I love sitting down somewhere looking at the camera, and explaining stuff.
When I really think about all of the times I feel stressed, I’m normally doing a bunch of things that just don’t give me life.
My goal over the next few weeks is:
Identify things that are not for me.
Replace them with the things I do well naturally.
Continue to check in on how I’m feeling about my work.
FYI - I ended up having a come-to Jesus mtg with the brand and they let me create a different style of content for them to replace the videos I screwed up.
Anyway, I hope you explore what changes you need to make in your creator business to maintain your sanity.
If all goes well, we’ll be creating content for the rest of our lives.
Finding what changes need to take place in order for us to create content in a way that is sustainable is just as important as creating a high-quality video or engagement on our content or brand deals…
