This helped me land a $6,000 brand deal in 37 days!
If you're not doing this, you will NEVER win! That's with all due respect
No shade if you’re just opening this email to support me! THIS section is for you - TLDR 👇
Depth is more important than quantity. You don’t need 10 brands that know about you, you need 2 that absolutely love you.
Fellow Creators! How are y’all?
Today, I’d like to share with you probably the most important thing I’ve learned as a Creator.
It’s a bit difficult even trying to explain this because I can’t ever seem to find the right words.
The reason what I’m about to share is so important is:
It’s the thing that’s been the most valuable in helping me get sponsors.
It’s the thing that in my opinion is more important than being invited to all of the amazing parties in the Creator space.
It’s so important that if you have a million followers but don’t have this, it will be almost impossible to monetize your platform.
The one thing is: Relationships.
This is kind of a complicated thing to talk about because it’s really hard to give advice on how to build relationships, how to manage them and how to leverage them.
Take me for example, I’m not a big Creator (BTW I’m not saying this to down myself, I mean that literally. My IG has 2k followers). In the month of June, I made over $6k in brand deals.
That $6k came from a total of 4 different brands, all four of the brands didn’t reach out to me with the intention of working together initially…We became friends and fans of each other’s work which later translated into collaborating.
Let’s take Spotify as an example, I met Zoe through engaging with the Anchor TikTok account around December 2021. Zoe ran the social media account for Anchor and most recently, Spotify for Podcasters.
We kept in touch and continued to support each other’s accounts, then we officially met in person at Podcast Movement in August of 2022.
We kept in touch and collaborated on our first project together in December of 2022. Since then we've collaborated on monthly podcast content for The Spotify for Podcasters Instagram & TikTok.
As people watch my goals video every month, they ask me all the time how they can also monetize their platform.
The short answer, you should build relationships with people that you eventually want to hire you.
This isn’t just true for brand deals, this has been applicable in my REAL professional life. On my project management Tiktok, I detail that even with no degree or real experience I was able to land my first project management job many years ago through…
Relationships!
I talk about my Project Management journey on my second TikTok.
Because of that relationship, the skillset of project management I’ve built up over the years has given me a great livelihood to support my family through all the ebbs and flows of being a creator.
I’m kinda tired of typing now and need to wrap this up, here are THREE easy ways you can leverage everything above:
Start going to more events with people that can hire you.
Introduce yourself & find out what the best way to keep in touch is.
Once connected, literally become their friend. This might look like checking up on them or it might look like supporting them (LinkedIn is key!).
This is also a marathon and the relationships you’re building, compound over time. For example, most of the events I go to now, are less to meet new people but to hang with people I already know.
Depth is more important than quantity. You don’t need 10 brands that know about you, you need 2 that absolutely love you.
I’m no expert and still learning on the fly, I know a lot of the people that read this email could probably teach me a lot!
Reply back with anything that has worked well for you.
✅ Updates:
📸 Instagram will now let you collaborate on posts with 3 people instead of just 2. This is great for podcasters! For example, I interview Kayleigh Carter & Tati Kapaya, I could now tag both of them as collaborators meaning both of their followers will see my post pop up on their feeds.
🎙️ We’re making progress on the Live Podcast Show (ATL). This week I researched some admin things like event insurance, deposits, and the actual recording of the podcast. I also emailed a few sponsors. (Thanks to everyone that replied and offered to help, it’s on my to-do list to follow up with all of you.
🎧 I’ve been doing a lot more podcast consulting, if you need help managing your podcast just reply to this email. Would love to help.
