Hey fam,

Like T-Pain in 2005, I’m sprung off all of these opportunities for creators to expand their reach, that $bag$, and look for new ways to engage with their audience. Despite all of the drama playing out with TikTok (and Meta in the EU?), there are still lots of upgrades and new platforms to explore that may open new doors for creators of all kinds. Check it out –

Riverside Just Got That Much More Efficient

Podcasters, the remote video and audio recording platform Riverside just upped their game! It now incorporates text-based editing and AI transcription features, saving you lots of time producing that high-quality content that your listeners love. Streamline the recording, transcribing, editing, and final production process in one place!

ByteDance, Tiktok’s Parent Company, Showcases Lemon8 App

If you thought TikTok was ByteDance’s one-hit-wonder, think again. The company is already working to push the new, Instagram-like app, Lemon8 into American users’ hands. It’s described as ‘a place for young creatives to share a diversity of content’ and gives Pinterest vibes with the aesthetic of Instagram. ByteDance has already been paying creators in the UK to post content and build audiences, now may be your chance to grab that bag!

Youtube

Youtube Shorts is picking up! Creators and musical artists take note – stats from the app show that artists saw more than 50% of their new channel subscribers coming directly from uploaded Shorts posts. And for those that can really connect with their audience, fan-created Shorts sharing music, or the original creators' tag/movement increased the artist’s audience of unique viewers by over 80%. Want more reach? Shorts are the way to go.

TikTok

The US ban is still undecided, and TikTok is going on offense to reassure US users and hopefully the government, that the app has actually helped many US businesses and subsequently the American economy. Last week TikTok amplified a range of stories and profiles on the success of creators, small businesses, and advertisers, and continued to ask users for help to lobby their local representatives to save the app.

Instagram

As private sharing through DM’s is increasing, Instagram may have opened up a new way for Creators to connect with their audience. The existing collections feature got a facelift, giving users the ability to create libraries of posts that are sharable with friends. Creators, these collaborative collections could be an opportunity to create an exclusive subset of followers or influencer tribes (up to 250 people allowed) through direct engagement.

Twitter

Are you scrolling through Twitter and realizing your tweets are barely being seen by your audience anymore? Iykyk that the feeds have been split between For You and Following, with the app having a silent preference for maintaining the For You side – it’s being referred to as the ‘main tab’ these days. Most people may not even notice they’re on the main tab feed. And now as of April 15, the only tweets that appear on the For You tab will be from Twitter Blue subscribers. This may be the chokehold that Musk needed to get more creators who rely on Twitter’s engagement to make the move. And to top it off, Twitter has already been pushing a select list of users – Twitter’s VIP List – tweets to the top of users' feeds.

Meta

Consumer rights group NOYB filed numerous complaints against Meta for data sweeping violations, and now starting Wednesday, April 15, Meta will allow some EU users to opt out of sharing first-party data that’s used to serve highly personalized ads throughout Facebook and Instagram. Yet it is still up to Meta to approve or object to the users’ preference for data-sharing allowance. It seems like an odd route considering major tech companies like Apple and Google give users the option to opt-out with the click of a button. Maybe this will broaden to the rest of EU and maybe even USA?
